Introduction
When the Club was first started, back in 1973, the only method of mass communication with our Members was via our magazine - the Double Dew Claw. In those days, it was typed on a typewriter and printed on a Gestetner; those of you under fifty may need to Google that! The Double Dew Claw is still going, stronger than ever, but hopefully this will help us to communicate with an even wider audience.
As a Club, we put a lot of emphasis on Health issues and have been at the forefront throughout our history. We were the second breed to be hip-scored and the first to have health test results endorsed on registration papers; these things are done by most breeds these days, but we led the way. You will find other examples of our determination elsewhere on the site. When problems have come along, breeders have been encouraged to confront them with support and guidance from the Club; breeders should be applauded for the positive way in which they have dealt with these issues.
If we look forward to the next forty years, and to all the challenges that may lie ahead, with that same determination, the future of The British Briard Club, and of Briards in the UK, should be rosy.
